Black Trumpet mushrooms or Trumpet of Death are edible wild mushrooms. These wild mushrooms are considered as a gourmet variety. Black Trumpet mushrooms are small and delicate with a brownish, grey or black colour.

The edges of the cap of the Black Trumpet mushroom are rolled outwards and wavy but they have no gills. It’s a very elegant ingredient to work with which has a smoky, rich flavour and nutty aroma with a soft chewy texture.

They are preferably eaten cooked. Black Trumpet mushrooms are available all year-round with a preference of consumption during the summer through fall.
